This course introduces the medical language with a focus on basic word structure, terms pertaining to the body as a whole, suffixes and prefixes. This course also places emphasis on terminology related to the healthcare professions and specialties, equipment, drugs, symbols and some abbreviations
This course is a continuation of the body systems covered in Medical Terminology 1. The focus of Medical Terminology 2 is the digestive, nervous, urinary, male and female reproductive, skin, sense organs, endorcine, oncology, radiology systems, as well as nuclear medicine and psycology.
This class includes health career options and preparation requirements, professional behavior, teamwork and leadership, customer service, introduction to legal concepts, societal issues, health promotion and wellness, preventive procedures, and safety practices. It also integrates academic strategies with healthcare applications to create awareness in students of the diverse career opportunities in the Health Science industry.
This course builds upon the foundations of Health Sciences 1 to continue to develop skills and knowledge relevant to the Health Science industry.
This course is taught in collaboration with Dallas Fire Department. Hands on skills will be demonstrated by EMTs and Paramedics, and students will gain opportunities to practice those skills in class. In addition to EMR certification, students will also complete Healthcare Provider Level CPR (BLS) and first aid using the American Heart Association curriculum
This elective course is your first step into the world of health careers. The goals are to introduce to you what health is like in today's world, what job opportunites are available, and waht the study of allied health will be like. The format for this class will include history of health care, careers exploration, health care systems, wellness, growth and development, social conditions, complementary and alternative medicine, forensics and ethics.
Hey there, I'm Brandi Jackson! I graduated from Roseburg High School, and then after earning a degree in Health Sciences from Portland State University, I went on to get my Masters in Education at Western Oregon University. I started at Dallas High School in 2014 where I now teach Health Sciences and coach softball. It's been an incredible experience helping students learn and grow both in the classroom and on the field!
