Instructor Info - Jim Welsh

Welsh

Jim Welsh has more than 36 years of law enforcement experience. He began his law enforcement career in 1986 as a Deputy Sheriff with the Shasta County Sheriff’s Department. He joined the Salem Police Department in 1998, where he served until his retirement as a sergeant in December 2021. Jim held various roles throughout his career, including supervising the Salem Police Department’s Crime Prevention Unit, working as a Narcotics Detective, instructing recruits at the Police Academy, and serving as both a Field Training Officer and FTO Supervisor. Even in retirement, Jim continues to contribute to public safety, contracting with the Dallas Police Department in July 2023 to help reestablish their School Resource Officer program within the Dallas School District.
